The ride

This 59.5 km loop rolls out of Amelia and soon trades tarmac for gravel, with most of the route unpaved. The climbing starts early as you head into the Monti Amerini nature reserve, gaining height through the trees. Later the road drops toward the Bacino del Rio Grande lake before turning you back toward Amelia. With 1611 m of elevation gain spread across the ride, expect a steady day of ups and downs.
