The ride

From Pompei the road climbs into the Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio, a nature reserve, then on through the Riserva Naturale Statale Tirone Alto Vesuvio. The 53.5 km loop keeps changing under your wheels, with a mix of paved and unpaved surface, and the elevation gain of 1496 m adds up. You pass the Fiume Sarno river before rolling back to Pompei.
