The ride

Roll out of Scurcola Marsicana and let the road carry you past the Castello Orsini-Colonna, with the Liri river alongside before you reach the Palazzo Ducale and the Rocca Orsini. It's 71.0 km of paved riding, all of it verhard—well, all of it paved—and 1312 m of climbing to keep the legs honest. The castles come in sequence, each one a marker that you're still heading the right way. Then the route turns you back toward Scurcola Marsicana to close the loop.
